The MD State Highway Locator gives the zero milepost for
as the start of the Potomac River Bridge on the Virginia shore. The eastern end of this freeway gets a nod for "stupid Transport Department tricks". The junction at mile 16 used to be a full cloverleaf; sometime around 1995, MD SHA decided this wouldn't do, and closed the eastbound to northbound loop ramp-making traffic leaving -and continuing on take a left turn crossing opposing traffic
