Tennessee And Else-Another David Backlin X-travaganza!

David Backlin's further meanderings about the Southland
bringing you the finest in road pr0n!

OLD mandatory turn sign on US 67 Business in Poplar Bluff, MO.
Likely ’60’s vintage, and it’s Button Copy!
Doncha hate when you forget something?
MODOT forgot a MO 13 shield on the guide sine,
so they bunged this assembly on.
Close enough for government work.
Hi-Standard Grampa sines approaching the IH 30:
Older guide signs for  NB US 67 at IH 30 just SW of Benton.
US 67 joins IH 30 here and runs with 30 and US 70 through Little Rock.
Straight ahead is old (pre-Interstate) US 67-now AR 229.
Not only does this assembly show 3 highways,
but it's technically a glitch:
Arkansas is straight ahead.
Missouri is to the north
Yick. Transport Lite sine on IH 40 in AR.
IH 30 and IH 40 split in Little Rock.
Okay. Which way is south? This is in Van Buren, AR along AR 59.
South AR 59 actually turns right (EAST) here towards IH 540
Centerville!
A real nice place to raise your kids up
Centerville, It's really neat!
Churches! Churches! And liquor stores.

This one’s in TN and happens to be Minnie Pearl’s home town.
Name A Freeway after Minnie Pearl!!
Spiffen 4-way signal on duty in Columbia, TN.
With bonus left arrow section!
Jumping to north of Centerville on TN 50:
Charles Thompson bridge over the DUCK(and cover?)!! River.
Yes, the Duck River again...it sort of meanders(or waddles, if you like)
along TN 50 between Centerville(a real nice place to raise yr kids up) and IH 40.
The plaque for the Elkins Bridge:
Shown in the snaps below.
This is Mount Olive Road, aka Washington County 44.
The bridge is over the White River(looks kinda green to me)
Snaps taken April 2005.
David Backlin got these snaps featured in a local newspaper.
The fifth one in the series made the front page!
J126 on the IH 30. Looks like AHTD ironed the shield.
It's all flat and squished n’at.
The sine lettering looks like FHWA Series “D”
New flyovers going in at the IH 40 west and IH 240 junction in Memphis.
The view is north, from the IH 240.
On IH 40 just past the IH 240 junction near Jackson Avenue, Memphis.
The whole freeway in this area is being rebuilt.
Would Danny Thomas be proud? IH 40:
St Judes Research Hospital Highway, complete with major construction.
The IH 40 Mississippi River Bridge heading back into Arkansas.
Close view of the truss span of the IH 40 bridge.
Meanwhile on the east side of town...
IH 40 south[east]bound approaching the eastern IH 240 junction.
IH 40 and IH 240 form an orbital around Memphis:
IH 40 to the north; IH 240 to the south; the orbital was all meant to be IH 240;
but the IH 40 route through Memphis was cancelled.
Advance warning of the IH 40-IH 240 east junction.
IH 40 and 240 prepare to split:
from the IH 40 southbound; which will turn back to the east soon.
Now heading into the same junction westbound on the IH 40.
Astute observers will note this is j10 not j12 as it is coming eastbound.
Junction numbers are based on the cancelled freeway route:
the remnant of which is un-numbered Sam Cooper Blvd.
Even more east of town; the junction of TN 385-which meets US 51 in Millington;
but may eventually become an orbital associated with the future IH 69.
