This is the set of roads that constitute the scenic route that literally runs along Puerto Rico's spine. The road runs west to east.

The source of this page is the Puerto Rico "Giua De Carreterras y Vias Principales" with modifications and graphic embellishment by yours truly. The Puerto Rico primary shield is based on James Lin's image on his highway markers page-James Lin sent this along so I could get a good look at it. The white-on-black shield was shown in the 1998 Driving license manual, as a secondary route shield. I don't know if this is used anymore, but I thought I'd take license and use it just the same. The number fonts are either the "Carta" font from Adobe Illustrator, Or one of the FWHA fonts from Chris Jordan. The sign fonts are FWHA fonts from Chris Jordan.
New
Puerto Rico Route signs
Oscar
Voss discovered this lot on a recent trip to Puerto Rico. From what
I can dope out,
Puerto
Rico is adopting a new classification system for it's roads.

Freeways
and expressways; main roads:
This
marker identifies main roads that connect the principal regions of
the island. These include the island's freeways.

Major
Urban
Highways:
These
are main roads in metropolitan areas that connect and complement the
freeway system.

Municipal
Access Roads:
The
rural equivalent to the major urban highway, Connects
local municipalities to freeways, as well as other municipalities.
Odd that Puerto Rico would choose the "County" shield .

Local
Access Roads: all other marked
Commonwealth routes, providing access to municipal areas and
peripheral communities.
A
numbered route may span more than one class, part may be numbered as
an main road; another part may be a local road
(see
the fist picture on Oscar Voss' page for a good example of this
situation-the link is below).
Puerto
Rico Freeway signs look kinda like this:

see the real deal, you need to hop over to Oscar Voss' Puerto
Rico page
