The
End of The road......again!

NY
81 ends, east in Coxsackie and west at the junction of NY 145 north
of Durham.

Now
if you look at Streets and Trips, or the locally produced Jimapco
map, you see that NY 81 allegedly extends west of NY 145 for about a
mile to a little hamlet called Potter's Hollow. Actually, it
doesn't, but the stretch of road in question is DOT maintained and
has a reference number, as you can see from these snaps. In the
second snap, you're facing west looking at the end of the road, and
east looking at the sign.

Here's
a sequential set of ends, two of which are actually close to each
other-NY 143 and NY 144; and NY 145 which is about 20 miles away. The
NY 143 END is fun since it goes down a sharp hill and has that sharp
right, too. Lucky it's in a low-traffic area.

And
the Ends of NY 396. The top shot is the east end, which is
just south of the Selkirk junction of the Thruway-if you step back a
few yards, you'll be on the overpass I shot the Thruway snaps from.
The bottom montage is from the west end of NY 396-which is about
2½ miles west of US 9W. NY 396 inexplicably poots out after
crossing a town line, and turns into Albany County 301-that after
crossing a marshalling yard on a very expensive and narrow railway overpass.
