Ostensibly this is a road pictures site, but sometimes I find things that are so cool looking, that I'll post them, even if they aren't road-related. From top to bottom: The first picture is part of a railway bridge in Catskill, taken from the pedestrian bridge over the Cauterskill Creek(the third picture). The second snap is the land portion of the bridge-which does a diagonal over the US 9W/West Main Street junction in Catskill-Which is about 400 yards south of the Jefferson Heights junction shown on the US 9W page. The third picture is a pedestrian bridge that goes between Downtown Catskill and the western part of the village. From the looks of it, it's an ex-railway bridge. The walkway is in the main part of the bridge where the rails used to be; funny thing is that there is a catwalk on this bridge, too.

Looking East
Two shots of the dual carriageway section of NY 23-taken from the same spot, and showing some mix and match guardrail action. The Thruway overpass is in the distance in the East picture.

This sign has been standing for the entire time I've lived in New York, and probably longer. Why? Because Greene County prolly can't afford to replace this railway overpass:

It used to have a 4 ton weight limit. Now to my eye, I can't see anything wrong with this bridge, but I'm nowhere near an engineer(Remember, I conk grannies with oxygen tanks), so the thing must only good for toothpicks. It would be a nasty scene if this thing collapsed onto the railway, which is active. It does make a nice snap, and it's the only all-wood road bridge I've seen around here.
