As you will surmise from these snaps, The Bear Mountain Parkway is nothing to write home about. It's a frowsy little 4-lane undivided sorta-freeway. Except at either end, where it narrows down to a single lane for approaching traffic. It does fulfill an important function, that is as a reasonably fast east-west bypass of Peekskill; going thru Peekskill is no picnic, what with the usual signals and whatnot, people double parking and 53' trucks trying to make the street corners. This road has no commercial restictions, and large trucks are allowed at night.

The west end of the parkway. Go ahead for a freeway into Peekskill, to the right for Bear Mountain and Poughkeepsie.

The sign assembly you'll see facing east at the Parkway junction; and a new Parkway sign-you can just make out the DOT logo in the lower right hand corner. I've seen this on other signs in Greene County. This is also mixed case, with a "sharp M" and a "two-digit" blank; as opposed to the "three digit" blank used along most of the Parkway. Note the variations in the shape of the NY seal, too.

Three views of the parkwayfrom west to east-the middle is just before the US 6 JN-it's very low standard-you make a sharp right to go to US 6. The surface is in pretty poor shape throughout. The Parkway has a mix of elevated and signalized junctions.

And just in time for the US 202 end of the Parkway, it's back to two lanes.
