Bear Mountain State park area
Bear Mtn Area Map

Since I was in the area of the Bear Mtn Bridge, I thought I'd poke around the immediate area a bit.

Half Gantry on US 9W approaching Bear Mt Roundabout
Here's a half-gantry in advance of the Bear Mountain Roundabout. The right hand sign has been clipped by something-and this is not the only sign I've seen with this sort of damage. The "Central Valley" control city gets me, as there is no muncipality by that name. Where US 6 actually goes is Harriman at the Thruway Junction.

Beginning of Palisaides Interstate Parkway South
End of Palasides Interstate Parkway North
The Beginning or the End of the Palisaides Interstate Parkway. Take your choice.  I made a choice and snapped the jüted END sign. The other one is fine. The green sign is the NY State Reference Marker, and the only indication of the Parkway's number that you're gonna see-it's for reference only.

Roundabout Warning
You can see the back of these roundabout warning signs in the "Beginning" shot. Here's another sterling example of NYSDOT signing consistency. At least it isn't the roundabout sign proscribed by the MUTCD. I'd like to see how NYSDOT hoses that. The grooves in the concrete are to get you to slow down.

Looking north at exit 19-PIP
Looking south @ Exit 19
The Parkway at Junction 19-Shot from the top of the Seven Lakes Drive overpass. The road surface is concrete. You'll note the lack of hard shoulders and in the top snap, a merge area has gone missing. This is typical NY parkway design. Actually, this is top notch compared to the Bear Mountain Parkway!

Seven Lakes Signs
Bear Mtn Park Guide Signs
Now this wouldn't be a Pict Mission page without a generous dollop of Signs, then, would it? Here's more slightly "Off" signage. The speed limit sign is an off font(Helvetica?). The PIP leaf logo appears on the Seven Lakes sign. Apparently the PIP commission takes care of the land the road runs thru. The eastern leg, at least is NYSDOT-see the picture below... Seven Lakes Drive actually goes from Bear Mountain to Sloatsburg with a short jog along the PIP between jns 19-18. The bottom snap are direction signs at the Bear Mountain Circle at the east end of Seven Lakes Drive. Note the ampersand in the middle sign...somebody in the sign shop musta pulled the wrong sticky out of the box.

US (W looking Toward Bear MT
Roadside memorial
Two shots from US 9W south of Bear Mountain Park. These were taken after I did the south shot of the Bear Mountain Bridge. The first one is looking north on 9W and the second is a little memorial to somebody that apparently had an accident in 2k1. Note the old-school cable guardrail
