Here's
a sign for a great steep hill on NY 296.
Actually it's about 1/4
mile long and maybe 41/2% if that.
It rilly doesn't live up to it's
advance billing.
In the distance, you can see the Bleu Poologue,
and
another “Hill” sign like this one, less the distance plate.

These
signs are displayed at maintenance yards at Thruway Junctions,
and
also at IH 84 junctions:
You can find one just south of junction 15
on IH 84 for the Fishkill shop.
This one is just west of the ramps
for the Catskill junction.
It's
okay, you won't get conked by a rock, because they've already
fallen.
This one is posted near any rock cuts on a highway.
Generally, though, you don't find too many rocks on the road.

Here's
that haircut palace alternate sign for US 9W
along with a few
flavors of speed limit sign that you can find here in NY.
There are
actually seven that I've found so far,
Besides these three, there are
TOWN, CITY, PARK
and just your ordinary garden variety.

Here's
something to do. Count all the signs at this junction.
This is the
end of the Thruway ramp at junction 21.
Note the five-destination
sign.
The smaller green signs underneath the logo signs list more
immediate local destinations,
and are not NYSDOT or NYSTA signs.
And here's a 2k4 update.
A new Home Depot was put in above the signs in the above snap.
So they've all gone south.

Now here are the direction signs,
They've been moved.
Note these are the same signs as above-
right down to the bumper stickers.
The STOP sign has been replaced by a signal,
This one is unusual in that it's a full LED setup.
Again, you can see the original signage
that was simply moved when the junction was redone.
Yellow LEDS on display here.
And here's a treat-
Quite possibly the furthest south you'll see one of these-
An Interstate 87 sheild with the state name.
You'll find this happy fella at the end off the eastbound off-slip
at the Jefferson Heights/Thruway junction on NY 23.
