This is a spiffing coffeee-table book produced by the Federal Highway Administration(FWHA) for the national bicentennial. I don't know what the original distribution of this volume was, but a copy had wandered into the used book market in the late 80's when I got my first copy for about $20. That got trashed, Luckily FHWA had a buncha these sitting around and decided to give them away to any interested parties. So Roads Scholars got a mini tax rebate.

This site has selected snaps from the book. Unfortunately there are NO photo credits, so there's no clue who snapped these pictures, which range from the early 1900's to about 1975. Well enough of that then, have a look at the pictures! I strongly recommend you hit F11 for full screen display in Intrerjüte Exploiter and Opera(all 2 ppl that use  that browser).
